What you always wanted to know and were afraid to ask about First Break Leagues.
First Break currently has four leagues in house:
Monday Night Team 8-Ball Tuesday Night Individual 8-Ball Thursday Night Scotch Doubles Saturday 19 & Under Individual 8-Ball
Updated scores, skill ratings and general league information are posted on the league bulletin board.
First Break uses a handicap system developed by a professional pool player and enhanced with in-house customization for First Break. We have worked hard to ensure the handicap system is fair to all players. Each player is assigned a skill level, New Players skill levels are determined by the league directors at the beginning of each season. Races are then determined by each individual's skill level.
The length of the season for each league depends on how many teams or players join. However, no session will be longer than 16 weeks.
Monday Night Team 8-Ball League
Cost: $30 per team per week. ($10 Green Fees, $20 Prize Fund)
Time: 7:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
No. of Players: 4-5 per team
The Monday night league is a perfect league for players who enjoy team competition. Your team plays the opposing team in a three-match race. Each match is played by one member of your team. The number of games played depends on yours and your opponent's skill level. If "Joe's" skill level is a 95 and "Jim's" skill level is a 55, their race would be 7 to 3; Joe would have to win seven games before Jim wins three. A player's skill level is based on his/her percentage of wins & losses. If Joe wins, his team gets a point. At the end of the season, the top teams divide half the prize money, the other half goes to the playoffs. At season's end, a luck of the draw playoff allows every team another chance to win some of the prize fund.
Tuesday Night Individual 8-Ball League
Cost: $15 per person per week. ($3 Green Fees, $12 Prize Fund)
Time: 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
The Tuesday night league is often thought of as a league for those players who are more accomplished. While it is true that there are more seasoned players in this league, many of the lower handicap players, who also play in this league, have done very well and havetaken home prize fund money. The handicap system is the same as the Monday Night League. which allows for play on every level. The only difference is that the races are longer. This league is fun for people who enjoy an individual challenge. If "Joe" and "Jim" were playing in this league, their race would be 10 to 4. Again, if Joe wins, he gets a point. At the end of the seaon, top individuals win half the prize fund, with the other have going for prizes in the luck-of-the-draw playoff at season's end.
Thursday Night Scotch Doubles
Cost: $12 per team per week. ($5 Green Fees, $7 Prize Fund)
Time: 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Number of Players: 2-4 (We recommend at least 3)
This is a fun and exciting league for couples and friends. In scotch doubles, the players on a team alternate shots, not turns at the table. For example: "Jim" and "Joe" are on a team. Jim shoots and makes a ball, then Joe shoots and makes a ball. Jim shoots again and misses, so the table goes to the opposing team. When one of their players misses, Joe will shoot since Jim had the last shot on the previous turn. This is also a handicapped league. This league, unlike the others, is not a money league, but awards trophies and prizes. Great for couples and friends who want an enjoyable night out with a little competition added.
Saturday 19 & Under 8-Ball League
Cost: $8 per person per week. ($3 Green Fees, $5 Prize Fund)
Time: Noon - 3:00 p.m.
The Saturday league is the newest league at First Break. This league is a great opportunity for young people to compete on an individual level while meeting new people who have a common interest and love of the game. This league is run like the Tuesday Night League, which allows for fair play on every level.
